Rachel Boddy (pictured right) attended a meeting at the mess
at Colchester Barracks, Essex, after finishing work at around 4.30pm.
After drinking several glasses of the free alcohol, the 33-year-old
(pictured left with her colleagues, circled) then got behind the wheel
of her new car and drove home. Minutes later, she ploughed into a parked
Ford Transit van, which shunted into two other vehicles. She wrote off
her vehicle, losing £16,000. The nurse, who has served in Afghanistan,
also faces internal Army disciplinary proceedings and could lose her
job. When police officers arrived at the scene, they found Boddy's had
been twice over the legal drink-drive limit. Her reading was 80mg of
alcohol per 100ml of breath - the legal limit is 35mg.
