Google may be developing a smart messaging app that answer questions
Google is said to be building a new mobile messaging app to better compete with rival services such as those offered by Facebook.
The
new service would tap into Google's artificial intelligence know-how,
integrating chatbots, or software programs that answer questions.
The
idea is to enable users to text friends or a chatbot, which will search
the web and other sources for information to answer a question, sources
claim.
It is unclear when the service will be launched, or what it will be named, according to a report by the the Wall Street Journal.
The publication, however, believes that Google has been working on this new service for at least a year.
It added that Google may let other developers to create chatbots that use the service.
This means you could receive an answer from an app about services such as restaurants, instead of from Google Search.
'Instead of
typing a query into Google’s search engine, users will type questions as
text messages, to which chatbots will respond,' the Wall Street Journal
writes.
'Google would steer users to specific chatbots, much as its search engine directs users to relevant websites.'
The company already has its own Hangouts app for text, voice and video chat.
However, its trailing far behind its main rivals.
