The eye movement function of Jia Jia, a super realistic humanoid robot,
reportedly stopped working from due to the much attention she received
from many starring guests who approached her at the Annual Meeting of
the New Champions, which is part of the World Economic Forum currently
held in Tianjin, China. The interactive robot has the vivid features of a
woman, shows micro-expressions, syncs its lips movement with speech,
and is able to move its life-size body.
But social interaction at the economic forum had its toll on her, leading to a malfunction in its ability to blink on Monday.
Jia Jia, which was created by the University of Science and Technology
of China, can still reportedly hold conversations with the enthusiastic
crowd, look them in the eye and draw a natural-seeming smile, but don’t
expect it to bat its eyelids.
