Madonna is slammed for her 'self-promoting' tweets following Orlando
But
Madonna, a long-time celebrated icon of the LGBTQ community, has
received a backlash for her contribution, which many have slammed for
'making it about herself'.
One
post includes a photo of her kissing Britney Spears at the 2003
VMAs, accompanied with the text 'Gay or straight, no hate', along with
'Stop Hate. Stop Violence. #revolutionoflove'.
The post was put out on her Instagram and Twitter late Sunday afternoon but was quickly met with criticism.
She
sent another message that included two men touching tongues with the
words: 'Love is Love. Stop Hate Crimes. Any form of terrorism is a form
of Hate! If this image bothers you why are you following me??
'Tongues are not the problem. Intolerance is the problem.'
Earlier
that day she also posted a photo of herself at a lectern with the words
:'You cannot use the name of god or religion to justify acts of
violence to hurt, to hate, to discriminate' Madonna.'
But what was perhaps meant as an expression of solidarity has been perceived as another 'publicity stunt'.
Oregon
girl tweeted: 'Are you serious right now? This isn't about you and your
fake a** kiss for publicity. I would think you'd know better.'
And Tia Dickerson tweeted: 'Way to capatililze on the lgbtqa community with 'bisexuality, I kissed a girl for momentary gain' Katy perry b***s***. over it.'
Madonna is not the first public figure to be slammed for her reaction to the Orlando mass-shooting.
Donald Trump tweeted Sunday: 'Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism, I don't want congrats, I want toughness & vigilance. We must be smart!'
It was quickly met with wrath from followers and celebrities alike.
Modern Families Eric Stonestreet wrote: Is this the grossest tweet in Twitter history? Yes. I think it is.'
While actress Olivia Wilde wrote: 'You are disgusting, @realDonaldTrump. Surely your supporters deserve more than your heartless idiocy.”
Omar Mateen, 29, opened fire at gay nightclub Pulse in Orlando, Florida, in the early hours of Sunday morning, massacring 49 people and injuring 53 in America's worst ever mass shooting.
